Subject outline

In this subject Pre-service teachers establish a grounding in the teaching of Primary Humanities (F-6/7). By exploring the traditions of knowledge within the Humanities disciplines of History, Geography, Civics and Citizenship and Economics Pre-service teachers will develop an understanding of dominant pedagogical methods. This subject asks Pre-service teachers to consider the role of Humanities skills in the twenty-first century. Using the Digital Technologies framework, pre-service teachers explore the various means by which digital technology skills can be enhanced through contemporary technologies and multimodal literacy.

01. Examine the role of Humanities in developing the skills of critical thinking, problem solving communication and adaptability.

02. Analyse and evaluate effective Civics and Citizenship programs within the Australian context.

03. Access resources both onsite and online to build a professional portfolio of strategies and pedagogy

04. Develop inquiry models of curriculum to address learning outcomes connected to the Humanities and technology influenced by current curriculum documents

Activities:
Collaborate on the accessing and sharing of models of curriculum connected to the Humanities and technology.

05. Apply a wide range of multimodal literacy and numeracy strategies to effectively engage learning in the Humanities to a diverse student cohort.

Engage with, evaluate and produce a range of strategies employing multi-modal literacies in the Humanities area.
