SOCIAL PSYCHOLOGY OF SPORT

Social psychology is a multidisciplinary area of study that incorporates many insights from closely related disciplines like sociology and psychology. Subsequently, this subject looks at how different theories in social psychology, such as motivation, socialisation, gender, aggression and violence have a powerful influence on student learning, particularly in the physical education context.

Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes
01. Demonstrate a clear understanding of fundamental psychological theories pertaining to sport, exercise and physical education.
02. Via refelective practice, integrate and confidently apply these theories into your teaching, coaching and change management practices.
03. Identify and accommodate psychological factors that may lead alternately to negative or positive outcomes, for individuals, groups or teams, in sport, exercise or physical education domains, respectively.
04. Adapt your teaching and coaching practices to accommodate the divergent and dynamic motivational climates persisting in each of the respective and discrete domains of competitive sport, exercise and physical education.
