Subject outline

In this subject pre-service teachers will undertake theoretical and practical study of the Physical Education (PE) curriculum with a particular focus on teaching students in secondary schools (Years 7-10). Learning experiences will focus on the application of contemporary models and approaches to teaching PE that align with relevant curriculum frameworks in the construction of student-centred activities that enhance student learning.

Prerequisites Students must be enrolled in either of the following courses in order to undertake this subject: Masters of Teaching Secondary (EMTCS, EMTCSB, EMTCSW), Bachelor of Education Secondary (EBEDS, EBEDSB and EBEDSM), Master of Teaching Secondary (EMTS), Master of Teaching Secondary (EMTSB), Bachelor of Physical and Health Education (EPBHEB)

01. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of contemporary models and approaches to teaching HPE, and can apply these approaches in the middle years of secondary schooling.

Activities:
Students will participate in a range of on-line learning modules

02. Apply contemporary models and approaches to teaching HPE that align with relevant curriculum frameworks that will enhance student learning in the middle years of secondary schooling. These include a variety of pedagogical approaches and resources (including safe and ethical pedagogy and use of resources including ICT) appropriate to state and national curricula.

03. Rationalise, describe, design and evaluate a unit of work involving a variety of teaching strategies that cater for individual differences in student learning across the full range of abilities and integrate general capabilities, including integrate literacy and numeracy capabilities and cross curriculum priorities in HPE Education.

04. Examine the relationships between assessment, feedback and reporting, learning task design, student engagement and understanding in HPE. Apply these relationships to the development and modification of curriculum documents.
