Subject outline

Major Projects provide the opportunity for students to use the tools and techniques covered in the course to date in the development of a system. The purpose of these subjects is to learn by systematically working through the appropriate steps of project development. Students (individually and in groups) work on projects that may include the planning, analysis, design, development, documentation and implementation of one or more systems. The project may be internal to the University or in collaboration with industry. These subjects aim to help further develop students' problem solving skills, critical thinking, and communications skills.

01. Plan and execute an independent R&D project.

Activities:
Conduct independent and team R&D under the guidance of a supervisor. Meet with supervisor regularly to discuss project plan, progress, problems and any project related issues. Write blogs to keep records.

02. Evaluate the latest development in the technology pertaining to the project area.

Activities:
Submit a project outline by week 4 to obtain feedback from supervisor.

03. Identify, select and utilise the appropriate tools, techniques, and skills acquired throughout the BIT or BIT Professional course to solve an identified IT problem, or in the development of a specific IT system.

Activities:
Submit a draft report by week 10 to obtain feedback from supervisor.

04. Present project outcomes to a professional standard through documentation and presentation.

Activities:
Write weekly blogs and submit a project outline, a draft report, and a final report. Give an oral presentation to academic staff members, fellow students, and/or industry representatives.
