This subject provides a general and practical introduction to information technology. Areas taught include: fundamental principles of computer operation, the main hardware components of the computer, data storage and retrieval, introduction to system software, the Internet; operating systems, file management systems, security; application software modules: spreadsheets, database packages, the World Wide Web.

Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes
01. Identify and manage computer system resources based on the client's business requirements
- Activities:
- Multimedia presentation and/or Didasko content on the main hardware and software components of a computer and operating systems. Self-paced online practical activities, quizzes and webinars
02. Analyse a simple IT business problem and develop a spreadsheet to model the problem.
- Activities:
- Online chapters from the prescribed textbook and problems/exercises that will enhance the student's skills and knowledge to develop spreadsheets.
03. Design and construct web pages with HTML and style sheets.
- Activities:
- Didasko content along with online- practical activities, discussion forums on creating and testing web pages.
04. Design and develop database systems based on business clients requirements.
- Activities:
- Didasko content along with online- practical activities and webinars on using Microsoft Access database to create and modify tables, queries, forms and reports.
