Subject outline

In this subject students will further develop their competencies in pathophysiology by evaluating general medical conditions that affect the foot. The subject investigates rheumatology, neurology, cardiology, endocrine, renal, respiratory, oncology and general dermatology conditions that affect the foot and the podiatric management of these persons. Those medical conditions that are more common in podiatric practice and put the foot at high risk for complications (eg. diabetes and peripheral vascular disease) have already been evaluated in POD5HRF.

01. Evaluate assessment strategies of complex medical conditions for which the foot or lower limb are involved.

Group discussions. Video interviews of people with different conditions.

02. Critically analyse the differential diagnoses for a foot-involved medical condition, with a view to determining differential and provisional diagnoses.

03. Integrate principles of reflective practice, patient-centred care, ethical practice and evidence-based practice to evaluate and review the long term management of podiatric conditions associated with systemic medical conditions.
