Subject outline
In this subject students will build on concepts presented in Pathophysiology and Pharmacology. Students will be provided with an understanding of pharmacological concepts pertaining to the use of ophthalmic medications. Students will study the pharmacologic principles, indications, contraindications and potential side effects of various ocular drugs used in the investigation, diagnosis and/or management of ophthalmic disorders. An understanding of the ophthalmic effects of non-ocular therapeutic substances and the regulatory aspects of prescribing ocular preparations will be emphasized. This subject will equip students to proceed to the subject Ophthalmic Management and Therapeutics and the Orthoptic Clinical Practice subjects.
