Graduate capabilities & intended learning outcomes

01. Demonstrate an understanding of the key biological processes involved in human disease by use of descriptive disease-specific examples and their significance in disease processes.

Activities:
Lectures and workshops. Assessed by formal examination and short answer and/or multiple choice questions.

02. Demonstrate research/inquiry skills by identifying, evaluating and collating appropriate information for coherent written and/or oral reports.

Activities:
Students will research and prepare a written report on a particular disease and its treatment. Workshop activities will focus on effective research/inquiry skills and sourcing reliable biomedical information. Assessment will include quality of written report in terms of content, clarity of presentation and use of references.

03. Develop an appreciation for the scope and workings of biomedical related professions.

Activities:
Students will develop an appreciation for the scope of the biomedical sector through a number of career-orientated guest presentations. . Workshop activities will further stimulate students to identify possible career pathways.

04. Collaborate effectively as a team to research, prepare and present a clear and coherent written document and/ or oral presentation for assessment.

Activities:
Students will work in groups to research and develop a precis of a topic of biomedical interest. This will involve coordination of and negotiation with fellow group members to produce the final assessment item.. Assessed by quality of presentation in terms of content, structure, clarity and ability to work effectively as a team.

05. Identify factors that influence how biomedical research is conducted, reported and evaluated.

Activities:
Workshop activities are designed to allow students to explore how biomedical data is generated, disseminated and evaluated in a variety of contexts. . Assessment will be through post-workshop LMS quiz activities.
