Subject outline

The Department of Languages and Linguistics Honours research method subject aims to enable high-achieving students to further knowledge of an Asian languages (or societies and cultures), or European languages (or societies and cultures), Latin American Studies (societies and cultures), or Linguistics. It develops generic skills such as research and writing skills. It demands a high level of commitment, and promises the most rewarding experience for an undergraduate student. This subject, LLH4RMS, is undertaken by all Honours students in the Department of Languages and Linguistics whether they are working in area studies, language studies or linguistics.

Prerequisites: The applicants from the fresh graduates usually are required to complete the major in the chosen discipline within Languages and Linguistics. Generally, the average scores shall be 70 or over (please consult Program Honours Coordinator as this may vary in some programs). The applicants from the former graduates shall consult your application eligibility from the Program Honours Coordinator.

02. To provide students with skills necessary for the completion of their Honours theses. This involves searching relevant sources and data (e.g. library skills), formulating research questions, preparing and implementing a project, and writing up the project in academically acceptable forms.
