Subject outline

This unit is designed to establish a knowledge and skill base for pre-service teachers in the areas of curriculum, pedagogy,planning, assessment and reporting in Design and Technologies for students in the senior years of secondary schooling (Years 11-12). The unit is also designed to develop students' understanding of contemporary theory, concepts and skills in Design and Technologies. Theoretical concepts, pedagogical principles and state and national curriculum structures within Design andTechnologies are examined and applied in the evaluation, design and implementation of learning resources that are responsive to the needs of diverse learners.

01. Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the concepts, substance and structure of the content and teaching strategies of Design and Technologies education and an in-depth understanding of how students learn in Design and Technologies.

Activities:
Prescribed learning materials in addition to discussions in class on topics brought up in lectures will form the basis for assignments.

02. Critically analyse, plan, synthesise and implement a range of Design and Technologies learning and teaching activities and sequences for senior secondary students (Years 11-12) which involve a variety of pedagogical approaches and resources (including safe and ethical use of resources including, digital technologies, use of data, systems thinking and creative and critical thinking) appropriate to lifelong learning and authentic life and work applications in the future

03. Describe, design and evaluate a unit of work involving a variety of teaching strategies, which cater for individual differences in student learning across a range of abilities and integrate literacy and numeracy capabilities and cross curriculum capabilities and priorities of state and national curricula in Design and Technologies at the senior secondary school level.

04. Examine the relationships between assessment, feedback and reporting, learning task design, student engagement and understanding in Design and Technologies, and apply to the development and modification of curriculum documents.
