Subject outline
The purpose of this subject is to outline the basic principles of Entrepreneurship. It will examine the steps required in developing an idea into a business, and will explore the tools and necessary insights in order to make a successful venture. The subject will involve theory, case studies and guest speakers on start-up issues, pitfalls and ingredients for success. Topics include: Introduction to I.T. Entrepreneurship; opportunity recognition; identification of business models; entrepreneurial marketing, writing a business plan, financing entrepreneurial ventures; legal and IP issues; and entrepreneurial growth.

01. Explain the process for developing an entrepreneurial venture.
- Activities:
- One lecture introduces entrepreneurial process and four lectures cover different aspects involved in starting and maintaining entrepreneurial ventures.
02. Analyse various types of resources to finance an entrepreneurial venture.
- Activities:
- One lecture introduces financial planning for entrepreneurial process. One workshop has the students to present case studies related to financial issues in entrepreneurship.
03. Analyse the legal and IP issues that can be encountered during entrepreneurial process.
- Activities:
- One lecture discusses various legal and IP case studies in Australia. One guest lecture from industry introduces real legal and IP problems.
04. Write, articulate and present a business plan that will be ready for venture capitalist review.
- Activities:
- One lecture introduces business plan to students including the way to write and present them in order to attract investors. Two guest lectures present experiences and tips in preparing business plan.
05. Reflect on one personal entrepreneurial capacity.
- Activities:
- Weekly workshop includes the reflection activity through opportunity journal.
