Subject outline
This subject provides an introduction to the equine industry, its structure, operations and business models. The subject describes the scope and components of the equine industry and identifies the attributes of a range of equine enterprises. Students will be introduced to the safe work practices necessary when working with horses and equine equipment within the industry, especially when handling horses and managing animals within equine businesses. The subject develops knowledge that enables students to identify the healthy horse and resources to maintain health, and evaluate equipment and its effect on horse welfare. The subject also allows students to examine the relationship between equine form and function and management strategies that may optimise this relationship. Students are expected to work with live animals.
