Subject outline

In this subject students will be introduced to dental anatomy, including the human deciduous and permanent dentitions, tooth histology and the tooth nomenclatures used in clinical practice. The anatomy of the oral cavity will also be covered: the oral mucosa, the salivary glands, the temporomandibular joint and the periodontal structures. Basic anatomy of the head and neck will also be introduced: the nerve supply, the blood supply, osteology of the skull and the muscles which move the jaw and the face. There will a series of lectures on basic embryology of the orofacial region, including how teeth form.
