'The pace and volume of modern change is drawing increased attention to the ways that human resource development (HRD) activities can be used to ensure that organisation members have what it takes to successfully meet their challenges' (Werner and Desimone, 2009: v). In this subject you will focus on an integrated and strategic approach to HRD in order to foster a long-term, work-related learning capacity to improve individual, group and organisational effectiveness. You will examine the foundational concepts of HRD (including the theory of learning) and the HRD process from theoretical and practical perspectives. You will also examine HRD applications within modern business organisations including skills and technical training, coaching, career management, management development and organisational development.
