Subject outline
Students in this subject will address the regulation of health practitioners and health practice in the context of professionalism, policy initiatives and legal mechanisms. The relevance of core concepts and objectives of regulation and legislative reforms are examined together with the impact of national structural reforms on traditional approaches to regulation. The relationship between notions of modern professionalism, policy developments and regulatory structures are also examined within bio-ethical frameworks and an international human rights discourse. Students critically analyse legal and policy developments from these perspectives and develop skills relevant to policy evaluation and legal reform.
