Subject outline
You will extend learning from DTN4DPA to consolidate and progress skills in individual dietetic case management. Translation of the theory of nutrition assessment, diagnosis and management into practice will occur during placement in a clinical setting. You will undertake nutritional assessment of patients/clients with specific diseases and conditions; integrate nutrition assessment data into nutrition diagnosis,formulate goals and management plans and begin to implement management plans with individual patients. You will use the hospital food service system to provide tailored therapeutic diets to inpatients; begin to provide nutrition education and counselling to patients; participate in multi-disciplinary team management; and where relevant participate in discharge planning for patients. You will begin to evaluate nutrition management plans through follow-up and nutritional monitoring of patients. Nutrition management modalities encountered on placement may include therapeutic diets, nutrition and lifestyle intervention to treat obesity and metabolic disease; oral nutrition support and enteral and parenteral nutrition.
