This subject begins the process of building clinical competence in assessment and diagnosis of major disorders and a rich appreciation of their psychopathology including the subjective experience of clients. The DSM and ICD classification systems are critically appraised and used, and students are guided in developing skills in administering a mental status examination and diagnostic interview.
