Subject outline

In this subject we consider the concepts of sustainability and social equity and assess whether the policy and legal framework created by Victorian planning laws forward these principles. We also consider the processes of strategic planning and plan making, development and environmental assessments and appeals and review of decision-making in a range of different practical, cultural and geographical contexts. This gives rise to a range of issues such as democratic and community participation, climate change, sustainable development, land use conflict and environmental justiceThis subject, presented online only, will use a variety of presentation media to identify and analyse the key issues arising in the application of planning laws. It will utilise interactive techniques and will involve online presentations from experts in the field.

Prerequisites Students enrolled in LVLGE, LVLGEB, LVLUE, LVLUEB, LWLAT, LWLATB, LWLBUSB, LWLINT, LWLMC, LWLPSB, LWLSC, LWLSCB, LBCOML must have completed LAW1LIM Legal Institutions and Methods and LAW2TOT Principles of Tort Law, or may enrol with permission of the subject co-ordinator. Students enrolled in other degrees must have completed at least 120 credit points in their degrees to enrol in this subject, or may enrol with permission of the Director of Programs or delegate.
