Subject outline

In this subject, the focus is on information governance for patient safety and service quality. Students explore the functions of health information and its technologies in the contexts of system and organisational governance for safety and quality. The purpose of the subject is to develop students# understandings of the multi-level management and applications of health information for quality of care and service infrastructure: individual patient information as evidence of care provided; aggregated data measuring and describing the structure, processes and outcomes of care; documentation relating to diagnostic and therapeutic decisions and procedures; and coded data for review and monitoring of patient safety. There are case-based foci on: health information and technology governance; the impacts of organisational, clinical and managerial information-related actions and systems on clinical risk and quality management; and healthcare accreditation system and information requirements.
