This subject surveys the international politics of the Northeast Asian region through the case study of the Korean Peninsula. Students will learn how foreign policy makers, states and non-state actors interact dynamically within the bounds of converging political, social, economic and environmental forces at the regional level. Topics for analysis include politics, ideology and governance; competing economic models; North and South Korea in regional politics and security; inter-Korean relations; regional energy security; environmental degradation and regional responses; the Korean diaspora across Northeast Asia; human rights; and systemic change in North Korea.
