Subject outline

OCT5PPB focuses on the development of core occupational therapy skills. Students are required to demonstrate skills in information gathering, service delivery (intervention/program planning & implementation), service evaluation and documentation, and practice these skills in an ethical and professional manner. They are expected to describe and apply clinical reasoning processes, including relevant conceptual and professional practice theories and frameworks, and demonstrate good communication and self management skills. During this 8 week placement it is envisaged that the student will be introduced to a mixed case load of clients for example fast and slow stream rehabilitation of clients with mental health, muscuolskeletal or neurological conditions.

01. Evaluate own practice based on clinical reasoning and reflection, and make plans for improvement

Activities:
Demonstrates effective time management skills (plans work schedule, uses 'down time' periods to research); articulates reflection on practice, evaluates and plans for improvement of own practice; takes initiative for negotiating tasks; engages in appropriate debriefing to manage stressful situations; prepares for and contributes to supervision sessions; uses learning tools (learning contract, journal , self-evaluation) to develop and articulate these activities

02. Plan and deliver effective learning and development activities

Activities:
Adheres to formal workplace documentation requirements; writes documents in an objective manner; develops appropriate session plans

03. Analyse and interpret service user occupational performance information and apply to environmental/contextual recommendations

Activities:
Articulates and documents individual/ group goals which reflect occupational roles; develops session plans that are responsive and creative in individual and/ or group context; uses measurable outcomes; demonstrates awareness of appropriate practice frameworks, explains rationale using supportive evidence; selects most appropriate environment/ service providers

04. Implement evaluation strategies for service provision, interpret evaluation data and adapt service provision in response to evaluation

Activities:
Implement stages 1-4 of the Occupational Performance Process Model ( CAOT, 2002) on a daily basis

05. Design and implement effective service provision

Activities:
Articulates and documents individual/group goals which reflect occupational roles; develops session plans that are responsive and creative in individual and/or group context; uses measurable outcomes; demonstrates awareness of appropriate practice frameworks, explains rationale using supportive evidence; selects most appropriate environment/service providers
