Subject outline
In this subject students will explore the complexities of caring for a critically ill patient in an intensive care setting. Students will develop cognitive, affective and psychomotor skills related to the use of advanced ventilation strategies, renal replacement therapies, complex hemodynamic monitoring and care of the immuno-compromised patient. Legal and ethical issues confronting nurses who work in ICU, ICU delirium, discharge planning/liaison, cardiac rehabilitation, and transportation of the critically ill will be addressed. Students will be challenged to think in critical ways and demonstrate competency in problem solving.
