Subject outline
This subject is designed to introduce students to the profession of education and to the central place of learning in how educators think about teaching. There is a focus on understanding personal and social dimensions of learning in practice, both biographically and as situated in changing socio-cultural contexts. These understandings form a basis for the development of critical reflective practices, including the questioning of traditional, psychological theories of learning. Topics include: understanding ourselves and others as learners; alternative perspectives and metaphors for learning and teaching; professional practice and discourse; personal and social dimensions of learning; human development and theories of learning; critically reflective practice; education as vocation; planning and designing for teaching and learning.
