FOOD QUALITY ASSURANCE AND SUPPLY CHAIN MANAGEMENT

Subject outline

In this subject students will gain knowledge of the concepts, principles and relevant emerging technologies of food quality assurance and supply chain management practice in an agricultural industry context. Students will develop practical skills and knowledge in matters such as purchasing and procurement, inventory management, transportation, warehousing, distribution systems and information and financing flows. Students will also explore coordination and management of the supply chain including costs, relationships, contracts, legal obligations, ethics, alliances and partnerships. The role of Enterprise Resources Planning (ERP), Just in Time (JIT) and Total Quality Management (TQM) in supply chain systems and food quality assurance will be investigated. Critical analysis of logistic systems will assist students in developing integrated management plans relevant to the agricultural industry.
