Subject outline
Students are introduced to social development in an international context and examine both macro and micro levels of social development. At the macro level, topics include the roles of the United Nations and various other development agencies, the significance of aid and investment in development, the nature and impact of globalisation, and an overview of theories of development. At the mirco level, the focus is on the nature of people-centred social development and its potential for human resources development, poverty alleviation and local development generally
