Subject outline

The primary aim of this module is to give candidates the time and incentive to become familiar with the literature on the theory, phenomeology, assessment and treatment of mood disorders, psychotic disorders, personality disorders, anxiety disorders, substance use disorders, trauma and abuse. A secondary aim of the module is to give candidates an experience of participating in a peer-managed 'Journal Club' format for professional development. Candidates are required to timetable each week a two-hour reading session (one hour on Journal Club weeks) in addition to the literature-chasing and assignment reading and writing time that should be allocated for any unit. They will also participate in a peer-managed journal club by reading the papers to be discussed, and by choosing and leading discussion on a paper for one topic area.
