CULTURE, SPACE AND PLACE
Credit points: 15
This subject offers a culturally informed basis for more sustained reflection on global identity in post-industrial cities. The need for identity in post-industrial cities and regions has led to the use of cultural events, art, performance and urban presentation to promote and distinguish towns and cities. From aspirant rural literary centres like Clunes,VIC, to Disney's real town of 'Celebration',to Holly/Bollywood movies, our definitions, understandings, and aspirations for where we live are intimately tied to popular culture. Through a range of visual and literary texts, this subject encourages indepth thought on bonds between representations and planning of cities by examining how culture enables us to interpret images, meanings, and experiences of space and place.
