Subject outline

This subject introduces students to a range of policy analysis approaches to enable them critically to examine a range of policy problems relating to health from a number of countries. They will identify the nature of policy problems, the way in which such problems are defined and narrated, and the efforts of policy makers to solve or mitigate them. The subject will also explore values and ideologies underpinning policy, conflict over objectives and the means of achieving them and the nature of power in the policy process. As well as examining the actions of individual nation states, the subject will also recognise the significance of global approaches to policy.
