Subject outline

The advanced life support (ALS) clinical management of the ill and injured patient is the basis of this subject. Students will undertake the management of patients at an advanced level by utilising scenarios and case studies in a simulated learning environment (SLE) and will develop and employ advanced problem solving, decision-making and effective communication strategies. Students will be introduced to the multidisciplinary nature of the workplace through exposure to the roles and responsibilities of intensive care paramedics, advanced life support paramedics and other allied health professionals including nurses, doctors and nurse practitioners. Students will be introudced to the practices and equipment of the hospital emergency department (ED) as well as new and emerging trends in paramedicine.
