Subject outline

This subject introduces students to psychosocial interventions and skills for mental health practice. Theory and skills for group work in occupational therapy are introduced and practiced during block teaching. The Occupational Performance Process Model (Canadian Association of Occupational Therapist, 1997) is used to guide the development of occupational therapy intervention plans for individuals experiencing mental illness. Principles of psychiatric rehabilitation and recovery are introduced to inform appropriate intervention plans. Elements of client-centred practice and environmental factors are emphasised.
