Subject outline
Students will be provided with a grounding in critical approaches to the media. We will take a broadly historical approach and deal with both theoretical and empirical approaches to the media using a case study approach. In this subject, we will explore the ways in which the media and its audiences have been conceptualised and investigated within Social Science and Communications research. Examples might include empirical approaches to early film and radio research, and the development of policy in emergent media forms.
