Subject outline

In this subject students are presented with an opportunity to explore and critically analyse the representation of sex and gender in popular international screen media. Throughout the semester students concentrate on the traditional and contemporary feminist and gender based theories that continue to inform contemporary discourses on the role of women and men in film, television and the internet. Topics under consideration include: the grotesque, pregnancy and couvade, masquerade, bodily re-shapings, and eroticism. Workshops and assignments focus on the development of research, writing, critical thinking and discussion. Emphasis is placed on active participation and constructive debate in workshops
