Subject outline

In this subject students will learn to develop an ability to understand the theory and practice of supply chain management in both national and international business settings. To this end a generalised supply chain model will be presented and explicated in terms of the challenges inherent in managing upstream and downstream relationships with suppliers and customers. Issues relating to SCM typologies, methodologies and metrics will be canvassed, including reference to lean and flexible systems. The relationship between marketing and SCM practices will also be examined from within the emerging paradigm of demand chain management, with a view to identifying the design implications of developing customer-cantered supply chains.
