Subject outline

We commence with some ideas of very general application in point set topology that lead to proofs of the Alexander lemma and Tychonoff's theorem. These ideas underpin an exploration of the theory of topological dynamics, where we study the behaviour of dynamical systems using topological concepts. We focus on the way in which open sets evolve dynamically and other concepts underlying the definition of chaos. Particular emphasis will be given to symbolic dynamics.
