Subject outline

This subject deals with the philosophy of Islamic Law. In this subject students will explore some of the core principles of Islamic law (Shari'ah) and develop a working knowledge of the Islamic legal rulings (Hukm Sharia'ah). Students will examine the primary and secondary sources of Islamic law, Islamic legal traditions and formal reasoning in order to understand Islamic jurisprudence (usul a fiqh). Students will explore the scholarship in Islam, including the Islamic juridical models. Students may use the knowledge of Islamic jurisprudence to further understand its role in addressing the Sharia'ah compliance issues in the Islamic finance industry.
