Within the Bachelor of Laws program, Honours is generally undertaken as part of the final year of law studies. It is not an additional year, as in the case of most other degrees such as the Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science. The Honours year is by application. It includes the research and writing of a 10,000 word thesis (which counts as two law electives) on a topic to be approved by the Honours Convenor. Students enrol in Law Thesis Part 1 (LAW4THA) in Semester one and Law Thesis Part 2 (LAW4THB) in Semester two.
