Subject outline

The unit treats international migration and movement of people as an important aspect as globalisation. Students will develop an understanding of the factors which drive migration and movement and the impacts on sending and receiving States. The focus is on the principles and instruments of international law which purport to limit the rights of States to control the transborder flow of people for economic reasons. The unit will consider how national differences influence the law and practice of regulation in relation to commercial activity, labour markets, national sovereignty, human rights and social justice.
