Subject outline
This unit provides an overview of family law and has been designed specifically for family and child mediators. It assumes no prior legal training or knowledge of law, but does assume some basic understanding of governmental and political processes. It provides an introduction to legal process and legal research and an overview of the Family Law Act 1975. Topics include the four key practice areas for family and child mediators, namely, children's matters, property, maintenance and family violence. In addition to the substantive law there is a brief overview of legal procedures under the Family Law Act 1975.
