Subject outline
Drugs and alcohol are dominating concerns in contemporary criminal law. In this subject we study a wide range of issues, principles and rules in criminal law through an in-depth, multi-faceted study of drugs, alcohol and crime. Topics include: drug use and intoxication offences; decriminalisation of drug use; intoxication and criminal responsibility; drug court and sentencing; drink-spiking; intoxication and consent; drug trafficking; drug importation and federal drug laws; conspiracy; combating organised crime; and investigation of drug offences. This subject extends students' existing understanding of criminal law, and covers both legal problem-solving as well as policy and law reform issues.
