Subject outline

This subject, taught in Italy in January-February, offers students an opportunity to study near Florence, where the Italian Renaissance began. Students are given an introduction to Italian humanism and Italian Renaissance literature and society through the study of representative prose and verse works. Cultural tours to nearby cities and towns are an integral part of this unit. Particular attention is paid to the manner in which a new vision of society and of individual merit evolves in the period.
