Subject outline

In this subject we cover literary, cultural and political change in Italy between 1200 and 1400. Cultural and commercial developments are delineated and the competing forces active in the Italian peninsula are analysed. Particular attention is paid to writers of the Sicilian School, to cultural developments in Florence and to the works of Dante, Petrarch and Boccaccio and their significance in the European context. There are no specific prerequisites for those not studying Italian language.
