Subject outline
In this subject, students will begin to acquire the foundation knowledge about normal communication and swallowing to serve as a basis for their future studies in speech pathology. They will acquire knowledge about the structure and function of the body systems and linguistic frameworks relevant to speech pathology practice across the lifespan. Students will be introduced to the WHO's International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (ICF) and Evidence Based Practice and be asked to apply these frameworks to problems that occur in the scope of speech pathology practice. Clinical problem solving will provide the context for acquiring knowledge.
