Subject outline

Processes that shape the Earth is an introductory earth science subject that establishes foundation concepts, knowledge and skills which will enable students to continue studies in this discipline or apply earth science principles to other disciplines and future employment. Subject content includes an introduction to theories, and the evidence for them, governing global to local scale processes and how these influence the formation of crustal rocks and changes to the surface of the Earth. Practical experience is directed at developing skills in recognising the characteristics of common rocks and the minerals they contain to understand the environment in which they formed. The generic skill of writing is specifically taught and assessed on both campuses concurrently with discipline specific knowledge and skills.
