Subject outline
This unit focuses on the networking aspects of modern fibre optic communication links. It covers basic fibre optic components including optical fibres, optical sources and amplifiers, light detectors, couplers and modulators. It also covers the architectures, control and protection aspects that are important in optical networking. Students are exposed to as much new development in this field as possible.
