Subject outline

This core subject for fourth year students involves the consolidation of skills accumulated over the four years of practicum. By the end of this subject, students should have demonstrated that they have the skills, ideas and resources to begin their first year of teaching independently, including how to report student progress to the school and to parents. During this final practicum, students will demonstrate that they are capable of planning, teaching, assessing and reporting on units of work which cater for all students, including those with special needs. The planning will be based on identification of their students' contexts and learning needs. As beginning teachers, students will reflect on and evaluate their own success in creating effective learning environments. Students will also prepare for the process of applying for teaching positions by completing a portfolio and resource kit. Students will undertake 20 days of practicum in an education setting as part of this subject.
