DEVELOPING MULTIMODAL LITERACIES
EDU3PWR
2014
Credit points: 15
Subject outline
In this subject we build upon EDU1LLL and EDU2SRW to focus on new learnings, research and understandings in this technological/multimodal world that impact literacy development of students. Key areas of teaching oral language, writing, reading and new literacies will be researched with specific focus on multimodal and multiliteracies in P-10 classrooms, and ICT skills associated with this. There will also be an emphasis upon broadening and deepening professional reading of current texts and research to develop understandings of the links between theories, practical strategies and assessments, as well as between oral language and performance, reading and writing. This knowledge and understanding will be drawn together in the pre-service teacher's planning for a unit of work that includes the use of multi-layered literature and the teaching of text analyst's role through critical literacy along with assessment of literacy learning to inform teaching and to help us 'read the visual'.
