This subject is an introduction to music theatre practice and a range of different forms of performance with music. Topics will include the artistic works of music theatre such as Sondheim's musicals, the politics of musicals, the function of music in theatre, and audience engagement. Two studio presentations will be developed from class work and students will produce one independent group performance project. Students will be expected to research and reflect on music theatre through an essay and reviewing a professional theatre production.
