Subject outline

In this subject students will gain clinical experience in all aspects of treating child patients. During the year, students will refine their rudimentary skills in oral health education and patient management. They will acquire skills in examination, differential diagnosis and treatment planning, utilising special tests and radiographic techniques. Clinical treatments will include restoration of primary and second teeth, appropriate to their skill level. Students will be expected to provide pulpotomies and stainless steel crowns for primary molars, along with primary tooth extractions, where indicated. Treatment planning will include orthodontic assessment with referral to a specialist, when indicated. Students will be on clinical placements in Mildura, Melton, Wodonga and Bendigo, on rotation, extending the academic year to 46 weeks.
