Subject outline

In this subject, students will be introduced to the study of systemic disease and its relevance and impacts on oral health. The first in a series of three, it begins this stream by building on the foundations of physiology, biochemistry, microbiology and immunology taught in year one. It encompasses the principles and fundamentals of 'altered homeostasis' and provides a basis for further study in the areas of pathology, pharmacology, oral medicine and oral pathology. With headline examples from the human body's systems, the subject will demonstrate the pathological processes at both cellular and gross level.
