Subject outline
The focus of this subject will be on exploring various understandings - social, cultural, aesthetic and philosophic - of such key terms as eroticism, sexuality, desire. Central to this subject is the cinema's engagement with sexually coded imagery, the iconic form and figuration given to erotic representations; an furthermore, how cinema over the course of its development can be said to have eroticised vision itself, that is, created a way of looking that could be said to be sexually inflected or 'tainted'.
